    Pool Alarm Video Transcript

Pool alarms provide invaluable protection for children and pets, and are often required by law. But selecting the right pool alarm is essential for maximum protection. This video, along with the detailed comparison charts on our website, will guide you through selecting the ideal pool alarm for your particular situation.

The main factors to consider are the type and size of the pool, and how the alarm will be armed and disarmed. Some units need to be removed from the pool in order to swim, others need to be manually turned on and off, and some can be put into a swim mode that will automatically re-arm after the pool becomes still.

Right now, we’ll quickly go over some of the most popular pool alarms and their most unique features.

The Poolguard series of alarms need to be removed in order to swim, but they offer a tamper feature, so if they are removed from the pool without the use of the override button, they will alarm.

The AquaGuard offers a "swim mode" with an automatic re-arm so that you can swim without removing the alarm at all. "Swim mode" requires a security code or use of the included remote control.

The PoolEye PE22 is very unique because it offers both subsurface wave detection and passive infrared motion detection, which operates like a burglar alarm to let you know when someone is approaching the pool. This model is armed and disarmed manually with the buttons on the unit.

If you need to protect a small pet, the Pool Patrol alarms offer the lowest weight rating at 8lbs. Sensitivity is easily adjustable by twisting the components of the alarm. This unit needs to be removed from the pool in order to swim.

The Swim Alert, like many other models, comes with a remote alarm receiver; but the poolside alarm on this unit is extremely loud in comparison to other alarms. This could be useful in situations where you want neighbors to be able to hear the alarm. This unit is controlled by a magnet and features a swim mode with automatic re-arm.

Sensor Espio is the only pool alarm that allows for the use of an automatic pool cover. This unit also features a remote control and swim mode with automatic rearming.

As you can see, pool alarms have various factors involved in their effectiveness. Multiple layers of protection provide the best defense. In addition to a traditional pool alarm, a Safety Turtle system protects pets and children via a turtle wristband or collar that immediately activates when submerged. The Safety Turtle is also portable and useful for ponds, beaches, and boating.

A door or gate alarm provides another layer of protection, and is often required by law. These devices alarm when the door or gate is opened without pressing the bypass button or entering the proper code.

And for enhanced notification, the PoolEye PE22, Pool Patrol pool and gate receivers, and Safety Turtle Commercial System can all be tied into a home security system.

Now that you know what factors to consider, check out our comparison charts (Inground Pool Alarm, Above Ground Pool Alarm, Pool Door/Gate Alarm) to help you make your final selection. And as always, for expert technical support, contact us at support@diycontrols.com
