"Z-Wave" is the name of a wireless communications protocol designed for home automation. Z-Wave technology makes regular household products like lights, door locks and thermostats "smart" so they can "talk" to each other wirelessly and securely. With a Z-Wave controller (or "gateway"), you can access and control any Z-Wave device in your home from anywhere via a smartphone, tablet or PC. There are nearly 1,000 different Z-Wave products on the market today that are all compatible, regardless of brand. And because Z-Wave sensors and modules are wireless, they are easy to install in old or new construction homes without having to run miles of wire or cable.
